Is there lye in Deth-Bar?

Simple Answer: Lye does not exist in the finished Deth-bar product.

What is Lye?
Lye is an essential ingredient in all handcrafted, cold-process soaps. It is the catalyst that turns the liquid vegetable oils we use (olive, coconut, etc.) into the hardened product.

No lye, no soap. Period. It’s the catalyst — the spark — that transforms liquid plant oils like olive and coconut into a solid bar through a chemical reaction called saponification. That word just means “turning fat into soap.” It’s chemistry doing its thing.

During saponification, the lye reacts fully with the oils. It’s consumed in the reaction. What’s left behind is soap and naturally formed glycerin — which your skin actually loves.
Now let’s take it one level deeper.

At Deth-Bar, we use what’s called a “superfatting” formula. That means we intentionally formulate the recipe with slightly more oils than the lye can convert. The result? A small percentage of nourishing oils remain unsaponified in the final bar. Translation: less stripping, more conditioning. Clean without feeling like your skin just got sandblasted.
So yes, lye starts the fire.

But it doesn’t survive the transformation.
What you’re holding is chemistry completed — a hardened bar of oils turned into soap, balanced to cleanse hard and leave your skin intact.
